Production-Qualified Voice Codec Solution from CHIPIDEA (CI7183xa)
Square CI7183xa Silicon Test Results
Test results show a very compact and low power voice codec with excellent voice quality for record/playback applications.
The compact area (0.42sqmm) and low current consumption (less than 1mA) combined with the voice signal quality (well above 65dB) make this IP a very competitive solution for Voice Signal Processing.

CHIPIDEA has developed a comprehensive family of Voice Codec (VC) IP solutions including the Micro Series, the Compact Series, the Standard Series, and the Enhanced Series. The different series of VC solutions target all relevant market applications and serve a wide customer base including world leading IDMs, Fabless and SOC companies.

The Micro Series Codecs are particularly suitable for digital still cameras and a variety of Speech Record/Playback applications, and offer the following main competitive features:
  • Extremely Area Effective (0.4 to 0.6mm2)
  • Very Low Power Operation (< 1mA)
  • Half Duplex Operation
  • Medium-end Voice Speech Quality (60dB SINAD)
  • High input impedance
Square Micro Series - CI7183xa (In Production)
This is a complete voice codec including the functions of A-to-D and D-to-A conversion, channel filtering, microphone and speaker interfacing.

The IP area is very compact by sharing most blocks between ADC and DAC channels.

A-to-D and D-to-A converters use oversampling delta-sigma technology.
The digitally implemented channel filters are embedded in the decimation and interpolation filters associated with the converters.

The receive channel volume control has a range from 0 to 42dB with 6 dB steps.

The differential speaker amplifier can drive an external load of 8 Ohm with 70mW (equivalent to LM4882).

The microphone amplifier has a sensitivity range from 530mVrms to 4.2 mVrms.
The data port is 12 bits parallel at 8kHz word sample rate.
A power-down mode is included with less than 1uA of standby current.
